‘Maybe if delivery drivers were properly paid they would not be forced to take such risks’
• A CORRESPONDENT complained about the road safety transgressions of Deliveroo drivers in London and suggested that “the police should take an interest”, (Reckless delivery riders, June 3).
Perhaps your correspondent might have considered why Deliveroo drivers take such risks.
Since they are paid as little as £2.90 per delivery, they are under pressure to make as many deliveries as possible, thus cutting corners, literally and metaphorically.
A recent study found that some delivery drivers earn as little as £2 an hour. If they were properly paid they would not be forced to take such risks.
