Thank you Flick Rea

10 June, 2021

Liberal Democrat Flick Rea

• I WAS sorry to hear that Cllr Flick Rea is standing down.

In my eight years as a fellow Lib Dem councillor we had a consistent, friendly, disagreement over my view that, like Supreme Court judges, councillors should retire at 70.

Going was imposed upon me in Labour’s landslide in 2014 – which Flick deservedly survived.

She has served her Fortune Green ward most admirably for decades. Indeed, she has proved me wrong by demonstrating her appreciated value to her community well into her 80s.

The Camden planning committee will be an even less effective place (and goodness knows it seems to be at a low ebb of late). It is there that our democracy will arguably feel it most. Who will speak up for trees now?

Thank you Flick. I’ve long held the view that you were the best mayor we never had.
